PAINTING
I am an abstract artist, using primarily acrylic, mixed media, ink and watercolor.
INSTALLATION ART
Dark Light is an immersive installation exploring the effects of light pollution and the loss of natural darkness. Using a curated collection of thrifted objects, a nightstand scene is bathed in glowing blue light, with hidden hand painted phosphorescent paint revealing itself in the dark. Visitors must step behind a curtain into a small, enclosed space, simulating the rarity of true night in an over-illuminated world.
INTERACTIVE ART
Independent installation project in an Oakland gallery, using more than 7,000 zip ties to create this installation. Prologue is an experiment in visual ambiguity. I used a common object and manipulated its purpose and form.
ARCHITECTURE
As a Junior Designer at Mark Cavagnero Associates, I am currently the rendering lead for St. Ignatius College Preparatory. I’ve worked on this building design as a core member of the team for over 2 years.
TEXTILE DESIGN
A modular furniture installation that aims to give the user choice and agency in how they want to sleep, sit, lay and play. The bed is meant to encourage both individual and communal dreaming. This sleeping rug consists of an accumulation of plush pillows connected with magnets. Each pillow is made up of thrifted clothing. The pillow arrangements can be sat on, leaned against, held in your arms, magnetized together, or even stacked up like a pillow fort.
ACADEMIC WORK
The single family home is arguably the cause of systemic isolation. The neighborhood isolates individuals from the city, the home isolates from the community, and the room is isolated from the family. So let’s rethink the home. I argue for a communal form of living that is organized around spatial dynamics that are conducive to the collective consciousness and dreaming.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
Coaster is an anti-hostile community center space focused on merging two different programs. One is houseless services and the other is public art/creation space. The story of a Disney apocalypse and the current houseless problem in LA inspired the social services programming.
SET DESIGN
Lead (and sole) set designer for Flight Deck, a professional theater company based in Oakland, on the production “Overnight.” The three-act play explores the impact of high-rise gentrification in Oakland. The set design won 1st place at Ohlone college theater festival.
ANIMATION
A residential building complex, based on the idea of a maze. A resident or pedestrian needs to navigate a correct set of turns to make it to the other side of the complex. Each building only has windows that face north and south to optimize daylighting. And these maze pathways made by the buildings and hedge walls act as shading devices for all the windows. The hedge walls are vertical gardens; these plants also are a great passive cooling strategy to lower the temperature of the mat building complex.
